Michael Jackson’s Kids Shill for ‘Grandpa’ Joe

By: Roger Friedman   //   Monday February 1, 2010

jacksonkids Michael Jacksons Kids Shill for Grandpa JoeFor so many reasons, Michael Jackson must have been spinning in his million-dollar mausoleum last night.

His kids, Prince and Paris, whom he draped in bee keeper’s hats and masks to keep them out of the public, took center stage and accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards.

Yes, they were poised and articulate. That certainly shows that Jackson’s parenting was better than anyone could have guessed.

But their remarks were scripted. And when Prince Michael, Jackson’s 12-year-old son with Debbie Rowe, spoke, it was worth examining what he said. He acknowledged both his “grandma” — Katherine Jackson, his legal guardian — and his “grandpa,” Joe Jackson, whom Michael hated. Joe Jackson is currently suing Michael’s estate to get a $20,000-per-month allowance. Read the rest of this entry »

Joe Jackson Dealt Legal Blow — By His Wife!

By: Roger Friedman   //   Tuesday November 10, 2009

Michael Jackson’s father, Joseph, has been dealt a legal blow — by his own wife!

Katherine Jackson’s attorney, Adam Streisand, has confirmed for me that his client no longer objects to the permanent appointment of their son’s executors. Katherine Jackson will now agree to John Branca and John McClain running Michael’s estate.

Since Katherine and Michael’s children are the only named heirs to Michael’s estate, it’s now expected the judge, Mitchell Beckloff, will make his final approvals.

This pretty much undercuts the crazy and lengthy objection Joseph Jackson has filed with the court to overturn Michael’s will and oust the executors. It’s poetic justice that Joseph Jackson has been undone by his own wife. Michael must be smiling in heaven.

Streisand, in an e-mail, did tell me that Katherine is not, however, objecting to her husband getting an allowance from the estate.

Joe Jackson Exploits Michael’s Movie and Death With $3,000-Ticket Party

By: Roger Friedman   //   Thursday October 15, 2009

Joe Jackson has found a great new way to exploit his son Michael’s movie and his death, all at the same time.

Jackson Senior is having a fundraiser for HIMSELF at the Palms Hotel and Casino on Oct. 27, the night before Michael’s “This Is It” film opens around the world. He says he’s screening the film for a select group of his fans!

The tickets are $3,000, and Jackson will be there in Las Vegas to meet and greet these lucky people. It’s called a Platinum VIP event.

More importantly, he’s altered Sony’s trailer for “This Is It,” using it as a video invite. The video is above.

It begins: “Hello, I’m Joe Jackson. I’d like to invite you to see my son’s movie.”

Here’s the invite to Jackson Senior’s party, too.

This reminds me of another time when Joe tried to horn in on Michael’s spotlight back in September 2001. On the morning of Michael’s 30th anniversary concert, Joe called a press conference to announce he was starting a video company. It never happened, but it was just about Joe. He is a remarkable fellow. Can he get away with it? Why not? That is, until the lawyers show up!

Michael’s Father Mourns in Public

By: Roger Friedman   //   Monday June 29, 2009

The BET Awards at the Shrine Auditorium last night were notable for one reason: the attendance of Joseph Jackson, Michael’s father. His son died literally 72 hours earlier. He’ s not even buried yet. But everyone mourns in different ways. Joe Jackson’s decision was to go to an awards show.

He walked the red carpet, did the press room, and gave an interview to CNN in which he plugged a new project. He laughed and joked about his 60th anniversary party in Las Vegas recently — 60 years since he and Katherine were married.

“It was the first anniversary party we ever had,” he said.

That’s probably true. Twice in their marriage Katherine Jackson had divorce papers drawn up but was ultimately convinced not to go through with leaving her husband. One reason for their marital problems: Joseph has an illegitimate daughter, Jovanni, who was only recently acknowledged.

Mr. Jackson was accompanied to the show by his publicist, a Michael Jackson lookalike named Ernesto, and Marshall Thompson of the veteran R&B group The Chi Lites. He sat up front in the theater and eventually invited Rev. Al Sharpton to sit with him.

At the end of the show, Janet Jackson appeared on stage. She’d arrived moments earlier. She and her father didn’t get to exchange a word because he and his group left right before she arrived. There is said to be little love lost between father and daughter.

Meanwhile, the Jackson family has a new live-in visitor: Grace Rwaramba, the ex nanny whom Michael fired last year. According to sources, Rwaramba showed up yesterday and decided to make a staycation of it. Only one thing: so far, no one’s had the nerve to show the Jacksons the story Grace sold to a British newspaper about Michael, in which she claimed to have pumped his drug-addicted stomach.

“The minute they see that story, Grace should be gone,” an insider says. If the Jacksons need the link, it is here.
