It’s time to go home.
On KEarth 101 radio this morning, the entertainment reporter said, with much seriousness, “Kathryn Bigelow is a first-time director.”
Apparently this woman had heard of neither “Blue Steel” nor “Point Break.” Or “Strange Days” or “K19: The Widowmaker.”
I mean, you live and work in Hollywood.
On the local Channel 4 newscast this morning, a reporter said: “Vince Vaughn was at ‘We Are the World’ to fill the place of John Belushi.”
“We are the World” was recorded in 1985. John Belushi was dead three years. He was a gifted actor, but he died in 1982 and was not doing any musical recordings in 1985.
The mistakes just come pouring out. “ET” insisted that Michael Jackson’s kids were at the recording of “We Are the World,” encouraging and urging on the singers. They were nowhere to be found.
It’s time to go home, take some Advil, and get some sleep.

It’s amusing that the most fact-challenged “journalist” this side of the New York Times’ Alessandra Stanley is chiding his colleagues for getting things wrong.
This from a guy who said for two weeks that “We Are the World” would be re-recorded at the Nokia Theater, which has no recording facilities. (It was re-cut Monday at the original “WATW” site, the old A&M Studios, now owned by Henson.) Just last night, Showbiz 411 reported that Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson would be among the performers, but we’ve read nothing to suggest they were involved. Those are just a couple of recent gaffes; the list goes on.
Get your own info straight before you start calling the kettle black, Roger.

Sounds like a good idea.

I thought Vince Vaughn was there to replace Lenny Bruce. (joke)

People make mistakes, Roger, just as you did when you said that Sweet Child of Mine was an Aerosmith song. Hardly worth it to write a column about it….

Blame the internet. And journalism schools. And the youngsters who are more interested in style, fame over substance.

Rodger I think you need to see a doctor??? Your hearing obviously not too good! I am the KEARTH Entertainment Reporter who you referred to in your article above. What I said was that Katherine Bigelow was the first woman to garnish a Directorial nomination. I followed that up by saying if she wins she will be the first woman to ever win an oscar for directing. Need I post my air-check and embarrass you?????????

Sorry, Lisa, but you did get that wrong. When I first downloaded the sound clip, I thought “Huh? Bigelow has been directing since NEAR DARK back in 1987″ (a cool vampire movie Roger doesn’t name-check).
And I also notice the original sound clip is no longer on the K-EARTH website. I’m not sure, but the one posted above might be from later in the morning (for those not aware, they often cover the same story at a later hour – with host Gary having to fake the same surprised reaction to stuff – and post both).
