George Clooney is going to put his money where his mouth is.
On Friday night’s telethon, sources tell me that the star of “Up in the Air” and “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” is planning to open the show by donating $1 million of his own money to Haiti relief.
This is in addition to, and separate from, the $1 million donation his group Not On Our Watch made last week.
Clooney’s rep didn’t return calls, but I’m told the plan is solid. A friend tells me that the actor is doing i to inspire others into action.
And who knows what will happen because of this? Clooney’s Hollywood pals like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio will be taking calls from donors during the two hour telethon. They may also decide to step up and make big donations. Pitt has already made a large donation with Angelina Jolie to Doctors without Borders.
Other stars who’ve made big donations to Haiti Relief in the last week include Sandra Bullock, who put in $1 million herself, and Madonna, with $250,000. John Travolta offered a plane of supplies and Scientology ministers.

Why isn’t John Travolta’s name in BOLD print like the rest of the celebrities? He’s been a bigger star for a lot longer than the rest of them! Petty comment, yes perhaps, but John is a favorite.

Awe that is so sweet and giving of them. I’m so glad that people in position can do great things for others. It is heart warming to know that people like George Clooney, Brad and Angelina, Sandra, Leonardo and Madonna are out there. It doesn’t matter how much but that they give they do what they can. John Travolta sending a plane full of medics and ministers is awesome! I can’t wait to see the Telethon. I really hope my favorite singers are there like Adam Lambert. It would thrill me to see him perform a song on George’s telethon. I know Adam has been on several Telethons since he was in theater. He also works with the American Red Cross all ready and has done several tweets about donations as well as videos to fans and Public Service Announcement(s) along with Entertainment Tonight to help raise money. Adam is really doing what he can to help. I’m completely expecting him to sing on George Clooney’s Telethon and join the other masses of great entertainers in this cause.

John Travolta has offered?

I hope Adam Lambert is singing. I love the way that kid sings. His song Time For Miracles is so fitting for Haiti. I just hope they don’t show slides of the sick and injured while he sings. The way that kid puts emotions and connects to the songs he does well it’ll make you feel the pain of those over there.

I dunno. Lambert has over 300,000 people who follow him on tweeter daily. He’s on there asking people to text money in to help Haiti. But I haven’t seen anything from Clooney’s camp on having Lambert perform for him on his telethon. Has Lambert ever done a song for a telethon before?

Yes Adam Lambert has done telethon work before. He knows how to turn it down for a cause and not be the center of attention, if that is what you mean. If you have any doubt just look at this Public Service Announcements he has done for Haiti all ready. The artist would be great on this telethon too.

Love Adam Lambert. He is doing a lot to help the Red Cross and raise money for Haiti. Not sure if he is singing on the telethon. George Clooney has a lot of really high gamers listed and most of them are really loaded money wise. Not sure if Adam Lambert has that type of cash flow yet. I know he is really working hard for the Red Cross but he may not be considered big dog enough to play for George Clooney’s Team. Sorry.

I will always like travolta. I can’t help it.

Travolta always find a way to muck things up. Keep your crackpot religion out of Haiti – they have enough. You too Madge.

I agree – Scientology ministers? Really?

It’s great that they give some money, but let’s face it studies after studies confirms that the rich give a much smaller percentage of their wealth to the poor than any other group.
A million for someone who makes $30M a year and whose net worth is probably $100M? Not exactly generous in my book.

Clooney is a great guy. I always liked him, his human qualities as well as his sense of humor, and now I like him even more.

I do like Clooney, but with his politics when he tries to tell us how the rich are too rich and the poor too poor and we should be evening things out, then I would think he would give a whole lot more…$! milliion to him is like $1,000 to me…yes it hurts the pocketbook but it doesn’t kill me. If he really wants the country to believe his politics, then give everything he has except what he needs to live a modest life. I am tired of those in hollywood that make $20 mil. per film telling us jokers who make $40K per year that we need to give more to the poor…step it up George – and Sandra – and Julia – and Travolta, please! Ministers??? Scientology??? Stop it! Help with food, shelter and most of all medical supplies and quit the preaching…

How many of these stars actually donated?? If they are going on TV asking for others to donate they ALL best be donating themselves. It is a big tax right off for them anyway.
