George Clooney works fast. In eight days he’s put together an all-star telethon set for this Friday on all the networks.
I told you about this telethon exclusively last Tuesday morning. Now it’s all coming together.
As I already reported, Sting was the first to say yes to Clooney. He’ll be performing from New York, along with Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira and, of course, New York host Wyclef Jean.
Alicia Keys would ordinarily be in New York, but she’s on the West Coast getting ready for Clive Davis’s annual Grammy gala as well as the actual Grammy Awards. So Keys will join Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift the headliner, Stevie Wonder from Hollywood. There will also be a group performance by Keith Urban, Kid Rock, and Sheryl Crow. Bono and the Edge, Rihanna, and Jay Z will appear from London.
Wyclef had better do “Somebody Call 911.” It’s the most appropriate song. It’s hoped that Sting might sing Springsteen’s “The Rising” as well as his own “Fragile.” All of the music will be available on iTunes.
What hasn’t been announced yet: A list of names of actors who will be taking calls from donors. I can tell you Leonardo DiCaprio is already signed up and that Ben Affleck is trying to figure out how to participate from the Sundance Film Festival. There’s no doubt that Clooney’s pals will all be involved, like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle. A source connected to the telethon says the flood of star volunteers is overwhelming, “Everyone wants to participate. It will be hard to fit them all in.”
More to come…

I’ve been wondering – is Clooney missing the social media boat on this? Press release after press release keeps coming out, but there’s nowhere (that I know of) to actively find out information. No microsite at MTV, no FB page, no Twitterfeed, nothing to build the audience before showtime.
While I know he won’t hurt for viewers or donors, it just seems odd that he’s ignoring social for such a big event.
Maybe it’s on purpose, or, am I missing something?
January 19th, 2010 at 8:27 pm
You might mention the purpose of the telethon.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
Sounds great. Remember don’t insult conservatives, they are at least half of your audience.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
same old bunch of losers, looking for tax breaks that don’t require a lot of documentation, they put $1,000 in their pockets for each .50 cents they send to the needy.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Just don’t get obummer to show up or he’ll cause the deal to flop, like he did for coakley in massachewshits.
January 19th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
How much will the performers be paid?
We already know that Y-Cleft-Pallate Jean charges his own charity $100,000.00 to perform at his own fund-raisers.
January 19th, 2010 at 10:34 pm
I have an idea, how about doing yearly or semi-yearly telethon to help with medical premium help. That way that want to donate can….
January 19th, 2010 at 11:31 pm
How big of them! Another round of publicity while they show ” how deeply they feel”.
They all want to participate – wow, such a huge effort to answer telephones to adoring gullible fand.
How about dipping in their own pockets? The price of their annual birthday party each would make a significant difference!

To whom it may concern,
Please give to the Haitian relief effort through the American Red Cross or other NGO’s! Please do not support this event with your hard earned money! Typically, these celebrity money-raising events only yield 3-5 cents of every dollar for the people they’re trying to help. Most don’t realize that these events in the end are only lucrative for the agents, managers, lawyers, organizers, producers and promoters of the event. These events are EXTREMELY expensive to pull off and even though the celebs may (or may not) donate their time and talent the people behind the scenes and that are under contract will not. If you really want to help the Haitian people by donating your money, the most effective way is to so is through a NGO like the Red Cross or through a respected charitable organization. Thank you!
January 20th, 2010 at 3:43 am
WOW…too bad these so called celebrities don’t put forth their efforts in helping out Americans in need. Oh yeah they did…they campaigned for Obama. THANKS FOR NOTHING!!!!
January 20th, 2010 at 4:01 am
Instead of performing and asking millions of Americans to donate money during this recession, why don’t these people just donate their own money? Americans who want to donate have already been informed how to do that. This is a way for celebrities to get some more attention and to make themselves feel good about themselves. I hate these telethons and hate the idea that hardworking Americans will give money and celebrities will then take credit for it. Really, is someone going to give money because George Clooney asks them to, but wouldn’t when the appeals are coming from the Red Cross or Michelle Obama?
January 20th, 2010 at 4:08 am
Telethon for what???
January 20th, 2010 at 4:17 am
I will never pay attention to anything involving Clooney or most of the Hollywood scumbags!
January 20th, 2010 at 4:22 am
How much $ have the star volunteers pledged?
January 20th, 2010 at 4:22 am
Who cares about a bunch of self promoting pretentious jerks. Maybe if they just gave away some of their millions they wouldn’t have to stand under the lights to show people how “touchy feely” they are. Remember the Live Aid concerts? All those millions and last I checked Africa was still poor and riff with AIDS and starvation. So much for the significance of shameless self promoting actors and “entertainers”
January 20th, 2010 at 4:41 am
As I expected, 100% boredom…nobody of interest.
January 20th, 2010 at 5:08 am
This from Sting and the rest of the Hollywood boobs who have coldly (more than once) said that the world population must be culled. These people make me sick. Why don’t they just shut up and give some of their millions and millions in silence. A better idea, why don’t they go to Hattie and personally help feed and heal the people instead of using this horrific tragedy for their own gain.
January 20th, 2010 at 5:12 am
I imagine they’ll be blaming Bush for this also.
January 20th, 2010 at 5:21 am
Why didn’t they invite Kanye West? Barrack Obama does not care about black people!
January 20th, 2010 at 5:37 am
Lets make it a nutball-a-thon only Hollywood types bring their money and this thing will be paid for before you know it. These liberal socialist are just like the government, I pay my taxes, Obama gave 100 mill. I make my donations to the charities that I have had affiliations with my entire life. I do not need a bunch of nutcases telling and or asking me to do what I was taught, was the right thing to do when I was a baby. I would not trust these Hollywood types as far as I could throw the Washington Monument.
These dicks need to hang together and discuss Socialist politics, why there is no God, why its The United States fault for everything, how George Bush and Sarah Palin caused the earthquake, and go go go.
January 20th, 2010 at 5:41 am
So there WILL be more libtards on stage than giving to their cause..

Good grief! Who cares about a bunch of leftest Hollywood elites and their giant egos! People are and have been and will continue to give to the relief efforts, without these self-involved stars “performing” for donations. Why don’t they just write a check themselves to the relief effort instead of asking us for money….
January 20th, 2010 at 6:01 am
You mean they are finally getting around to have a concert to protest the nuclear threat of North Korea and Iran? Its about time!
January 20th, 2010 at 6:03 am
Now there’s plenty of reasons not to watch…
January 20th, 2010 at 6:14 am
Why would Sting sing Bruce’s song if Bruce is going to be there singing?
January 20th, 2010 at 6:16 am
Didn’t you dopes learn anything after the Clooney debacle following Katrina?
Sorry, but I wouldn’t give Clooney – nor any of his uber-leftist scum a dime, because as we saw so clearly before, 8 out every 10 dollars DID NOT GO TO THE PEOPLE WHO NEEDED IT MOST and no amount of Cloony’s whining did anything to change that fact.
And now another vapid uber-leftist and his “charity” is under investigation with Wyclef Jean and his Yele Haiti and other sub charities for tax evaision, failure to file, paying himself to play at other “benefit” concerts, where only Jean benefited.
Do the right thing and give to solid, well established charities and stay away from all the symbolism over substance psuedo-charities that the Hollywood elitist, uber-leftist’s pimp while doing nothing other than shill for them on late night television.
Pathetic. Sad. But oh so very true.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:19 am
Have they announced where the money will be going? I will donate if they include the Salvation Army. This organization is on the ground helping people while others are trying to figure out how to get there.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:30 am
I wouldn’t support the Haitians with bunch of losers running it. The Red Cross, and many others area 1000 times higher up my list then this attempt at feel good by a bunch of brainless wonders.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:30 am
Are all these stars donating at least 100k??? They’d better be….otherwise very selfish and hypocritical.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:31 am
I agree with ‘GozieBoy’.
Liberals stink like week old dock baked Tuna.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:32 am
Don’t forget to invite Kayne!
January 20th, 2010 at 6:33 am
Oh please stop! The same old ‘Live Aid’ faces are now exploiting Haiti to extract more TV face-time for their over-inflated egos.
Why don’t these camera hogs donate a few million dollars (each) from their own bank accounts and then just quietly “exit stage left”?
January 20th, 2010 at 6:34 am
We don’t need a bunch of elitist, self-involved, out of touch Hollywood types to ask us to send money to the relief effort… we Americans have been and will continue to help, that is what we do….
January 20th, 2010 at 6:35 am
I have had it with these hollywood types. The group listed could all afford to make a sizeable donation out of their own pocket but they think that by going on TV and asking me to donate is the way to go. Why would I make a donation because George Clooney asked me to. I have already donated because it is the right thing to do.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:46 am
I wonder if Kanye will appear to remind us that George Bush hates black people…

January 20th, 2010 at 7:05 am
Why don’t all these superduds pull the money out of their own pockets to donate? They are all overpaid for what they do.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:22 am
Same old liberal jokers. Clooney suffers from delusions of grandeur. What a pompous twit.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:25 am
This is a gamble. These celebs are gambling that the money donated from viewers will be more than the cost of putting on a show of this magnitude. How about instead of boosting their ego’s on how much they have helped out the Haitian cause by being a celebrity, they just donate the money themselves, and the stations air time be equivocated to a dollar and that donated directly to the Haitian’s through whatever organization desired.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:32 am
WOW – I feel much better now !!
January 20th, 2010 at 7:34 am
Thank you to Clooney and all the others who participate
what is so weird: what seems to be important in his article is to mention the ‘big’ names. Friedman doesn’t even bother to mention the cause, what the money is for ….
January 20th, 2010 at 7:36 am
These preening self-important celebretards just can’t get themselves in front of enough cameras. This is nothing more to them than another publicity stunt, aphoto op to show the world ‘how much they care.’
They should each just quietly write a check or do a PSA for the Red Cross instead of throwing a big party. Posers, all of them.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:37 am
I’m assuming this “telethon” is to raise money for Haitian relief efforts? Good reporters always make sure to cover the five W’s. I guess Friedman cares more about the Who’s.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:42 am
WIll these losers blame Bush for Haiti too?
January 20th, 2010 at 7:44 am
What a bunch of sanctimonious (sic) BS,i remember live aid,all these jerks do is raise money for warlords and get face time for their inflated egos, watching paint dry is twice as interesting.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:45 am
So much for free speech. I never return to websites that gag comments. There are plenty others that don’t.

Hopefully, your not just spewing diatrabe to see your words in print………..Get back to me on that front, would’ja
Peace
January 20th, 2010 at 7:47 am
What else could you expect from Clooney but a publicity stunt. the donations after everyone besides the stars get their cut is minimal. I prefer to give directly to the RED Cross.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:48 am
Stevie can sing his Barack Obama song again, that will rake in the dough (not). With Sting and Bruce pimping them selves for Obama assures I will not be tuning in. I think I’ll go get a couple DVDs for that evening.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:57 am
Your article never mentions the most important thing: what is the telethon is for?
January 20th, 2010 at 7:57 am
This looney Clooney and the rest constantly condemn we conservatives then turn around and ask for help.
I wouldn’t help you out anything other than the door. I only hope I can convince people to give to the Red Cross and other legitimate and worthwhile groups and not you people.
You give your money only for tax write offs and ego and “don’t I look good” attitude.
I’ve finally attained a following of people who won’t listen to your music and watch your movies and am constantly getting on someones’ back that gives you any money. Your money goes for causes that are against the principles of this Republic. Get Alex Baldwin to go with you as the tough guy, seeing as how he wanted to stone Henry Hyde and his family to death.
I’ll support your causes when hades freezes.
RED CROSS, SALVATION ARMY, CATHOLIC CHARITIES, ARE LEGIT AND DON’T SHOW THEIR EGOS. JUST THEIR HEARTS.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:59 am
I hate these show boats!
These so called movie stars, had their unions write OBAMA stating that they do not want to pay taxes on their cadillac health insurance!
Talk about hypocrites!
January 20th, 2010 at 8:07 am
This is ridiculous. These people have millions, why don’t they give 1 million each and stop begging. What’s is this telethon for? To get donations from the poor people and middle class? Were barely making it, some people are losing or lost their jobs along with everything else in their lives. If they really want to help, why don’t the they out get of there leisure life and travel around the US and help the AMERICAN people. How much of this money that they get will actually go for the victims.
January 20th, 2010 at 8:27 am
My hope is that, this time, Mr. Clooney will set up a more effective method of delivering the funds generated by his telethon to those in need than was the case with his 9-11 telethon. In addition, like any other legitimate aid organization, he should have an independent accounting firm audit the flow of funds and publish the findings on the administrative costs and overhead vs. actual funds delivered. Lastly, if it is discovered that his telethon has some obvious flaws, like none of the money is getting where he said it was going, he needs to take responsibility for that shortcoming, rather than blaming the people who are pointing out the problem. Eyes will be on this one . . .
January 20th, 2010 at 8:28 am
I read the text above. Not one mention of what the Clooney Telethon is for. Yes, yes, its obvious, but its still a good basic point. Reminds me of in the late 90’s when newspapers would go on and on about a useful web site, then forget to show the location (URL) of the site they are talking about…

I guess I have to assume that the telethon is for Haiti since The Crack Hollywood Reporter didn’t bother to include that in the article.
January 20th, 2010 at 8:36 am
Well,
If all those Celebs who want to be in the telethon each gave 1 million each (or more) that would be a great start.
The way Obama is Taxing the Middle Class there is no money left for us regular folks to donate.
It’s nice when you make 25 Million a Year or more, you can give large sums of money away.
Most Americans are hurting, really hurting.
When are they going to have a Telethon for Americans who are victims of the Obama Tax Hike Burden?
I see people stealing food in stores. Food. Never mind having electricity at home, they just want food.
January 20th, 2010 at 8:41 am
Clooney should hold this event at Port au Prince if he is sincerely in this effort.
January 20th, 2010 at 8:43 am
Why don’t they just donate the amount of money it will take to put on this self-serving pat-me-on-the back little show.
January 20th, 2010 at 8:56 am
I’m sure the Haitains will just love all of that awful noise. Not! Are they raising funds, or are they just getting people to pay attention to how much the care?
January 20th, 2010 at 9:10 am
Trying to justify your existence?
We can use the help here, what with all the jobs lost and houses being foreclosed!!!!
January 20th, 2010 at 9:13 am
Hey, you forgot to mention what the telethon is for…Oh yea, it is for “poor” George Clooney, after all, it IS the Clooney Telethon. Never once in the article did you mention Hatai AT ALL!!!
So, let me get this straight…these Famous people will donate their time for which they get all this attention and a tiny portion of their wealth, FOR WHICH THEY GET TAX WRITE-OFFS, and I am supposed to care? In short, because of their writting it off on their taxes, it is really the American people who are donating without consent. And what will the American people get from the world? A “thank you”, a “job well done”? Nope…just more insults, like those from the French saying that we are attempting to take over.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:14 am
Don’t worry all your money will be spent well. Just like the 3 billion we already have donated to Haiti in taxes(yours and my money) since 1992. It’s time for these poor countries to stand on their own. Grow some balls and fight for their rights just as we have for 234 years. It is the only way. I don’t mind helping but no one man can expect to be owed anything in this world.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:14 am
For everyone that has an attention span longer than to the end of a text message, will the author please tell the rest of us what the telethon is for?
January 20th, 2010 at 9:20 am
The people of Haiti have been starving for decades…Where were these a-holes then?
January 20th, 2010 at 9:22 am
Won’t be watching these American hating pimps asking for money from those they hate, let them donate their own money. I already gave.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:28 am
Yawn. These folks have lost all relevance. A bunch of vacuous fools.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:29 am
Not impressed. Something a little perverse about mega rich stars getting on TV and begging poor folks for money — especially during a recession — and especially when so many good people started donating and volunteering OVER A WEEK AGO. Lucky for the people of Haiti, they didn’t have to wait for the “flood of [spoiled] stars” to get something put together. Gotta wonder how much will be spent just to put the show on that could have been donated to the people of Haiti immediately…. Nope. Not impressed one little tiny bit.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:29 am
And what’s this telethon for???
January 20th, 2010 at 9:32 am
Amazingly, it’s scheduled to air at the same time Fox network will be showing Glenn Beck’s expose of their kind that push socialism/communism and how Mao, Che, and Stalin created a revolutionary holocaust when they took over. LIVE FREE OR DIE 5pm January 22nd, FOX NEWS NETWORK TiVo the hollyweird idiots if you must but watch this important expose!
January 20th, 2010 at 9:33 am
The strange thing about this article is that amid all of the name-dropping, there’s not one mention of the reason for the telethon. Typical Hollywood narcissism. How about mentioning the ways “ordinary” people can help Haiti? I contributed already. I don’t need self-important celebrities like Clooney to tell me what’s important.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:38 am
“Somebody call 911″? Idiot.
The Wyclef song is “911″ and is about a spurned lover. And the lyrics are “Someone please call 911.”
You might be thinking of Sean Kingston’s song which is actually called “Fire Burning” and that song is not about helping anyone either. He’s after a hottie who’s ripping it up on the dancefloor.
The attempt at topical humor scores a solid D+.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:43 am
I’d love to see Clooney put together a telethon/concert for our troops. THAT would be applaudable.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:46 am
I wonder how much carbon the will use getting this all together. It will probably cause Haiti to flood.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:46 am

While I have great compassion for any natural disaster that affects the world I have one question for the Hollywood Scene?
This past year has been one of most awful years for Middle Class and below who “work” not the welfare takers and have been put out of jobs. Some cannot find jobs (ie. my son-in-law) for 19 years was Union Pipe Fitter. Has been out of work since June with 3 children. They lost there house, their 2nd vehicle and are having to file bankruptcy. This has happened to so many Americans and my question to these peope who give millions out the Country. Why have you never thought about helping those who really need it right here in your own country. Do you have to have a Natural Disaster to feel good about doing it so you get national recognition?
I am 60 and work and feel blessed to have a job. We have helped our family as much as we can but they qualify for nothing as my daughter is working supporting everyone.
I would like to see someone have the guts to print this and ask all these millionaires (who once struggled) why they do nothing Telethon Wise to help the American People right here on their own soil and give to those who could use it.
I am opposed to those who live off the system and could work…but those middle class families struggling…how about paying their mortgage or rent for a year…pay their healthcare for year, give them grocery money or purchae them a vehicle?
I will not donate to Haiti…please understand I have alot of compassion but my priorities are to help those right here who I know and who need it as well.
Hollywood???? How about doing something truly right for America and help those here who go to see your movies, listen to your music, watch your plays. I am sure you could refrain from buying a $900 pair of shoes or handbag and do some good with it.

Not very good reporting! Most articles should include information about the telethon! Like that it is for Haiti? I am just assuming this, but it should have been put in the article!
January 20th, 2010 at 9:51 am
What’s the telethon about?
Raise money for plastic surgery for the stars?
January 20th, 2010 at 9:52 am
Arf. I think this is great. But we also need to do more to help raise money so that we can take care of all the homeless and hurt animals in Haiti. Here’s more on this and how we can all help. Grrrr…

Hard to fit them all in? I doubt there will be enough room for both Bruce Springsteen and George Clooney’s egos under one roof, much less room for all the others.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:17 am
What I want to see is Clooney on the phone calling his rich liberal buddies and pumping them for money. Call it punked for Charity.
I’m sick to death of celebrities bilking money from the peasants, let’s just see a rolling list of what THEY have ponied up. This patronizing pontificating is unnecessary as we already give without their encouragement.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:19 am
If this is a news story then you totally missed it. What is the Clooooney Telathon, and what is its purpose.
“Appropriate song” for what?
January 20th, 2010 at 10:26 am
Why don’t they open up their own wallets and leave us alone? I won’t be watching or donating through them.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:29 am
Hollywood,
Before you ask us, the unwashed, uninitiated folks you so sorely disdain as beneath you…could you first find out what happened to all that money you raised in your last telethon for the 9/11 families? Just asking.
I gave at the office already–through Catholic Charities.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:29 am
WHERE IS HAITI MENTIONED HERE??? Did the writer of this piece forget what this is all about? I see the names of the “beautiful” people of Hollywood, but no mention of HAITI!! Funny, isn’t it?? Hollywood humble to the core.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:35 am
They can’t just contact their celeb buddies and get millions that way? Self gratication egomaniacs….look what I’M doing attitude.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:43 am
i can’t stand every single one of those liberal, rich ego maniacs.
i won’t be watching.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:50 am
Kala, that’s what I would like to see, too, but what is all the show about? It’s about them. They could probably give the money themselves…no overhead, paying union wages to everybody from cameramen to janitors. No after party with champagne and caviar. They want to do a benefit? Do one for all the unemployed in the USA.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:52 am
It’s a nice gesture, but way too heavy with old has-beens. Springsteen, Bono, Sting, Stevie Wonder? It’s a golden oldies show balanced with vapid, empty-calorie, smile pop. It’s for an important cause, for sure, but they couldn’t any artists who posess vitality, urgency, and change? I guess the older crowd and the teeny-boppers are the best targets for money, but still, where’s the humanity?
January 20th, 2010 at 10:52 am
Hey Bo. It’s Haiti, there are no “homeless and Hurt animals” tehy have all been eaten.

RIGHT ON KALA! Lets see these caring celebs donate their salaries for a year. Or how about one of these big time producers, donate sales of their movies. Middle class is so dogged with just trying to keep up. Yeah I gave before I listened to 1 of these dopes and I am unemployed. Lets hope all the network staff who are over there will give up there living quarters in Haiti to the people of Haiti and let them live on the streets. That is sacrifice and keeping it real.
January 20th, 2010 at 11:11 am
Hey Kala,
Did you not know that Brad Pitt already donated $1 MILLION to Haiti. Let these famous folks use their mouthpieces and microphones to help. Just because their rich and famous doesn’t mean they don’t have a heart and are willing to help others.
January 20th, 2010 at 11:22 am
Hello!? Clooney or his “friends” never bothered to help the thousands of starving children in Haiti prior to the earthquake. Now it’s the right thing to do? We have been helping Feed My Starving Children for years. I know where my money goes when I give to that organization. Good Luck Mr. Clooney begging us middle class for money to help (which we gladdly give even before this). I won’t be watching, just like I didn’t watch you with the Tsunami Releif.
January 20th, 2010 at 11:33 am
We do give without the celebritard’s telling us too. We don’t need them to encourage us to do what’s right, as Kala has said. Many of us would like them to shut-up and show some humility in the face of this disaster! The best thing for them to do is give without using this to promote themselves.
January 20th, 2010 at 11:52 am
Are you kidding? Another oppportunity for celebrities to free advetisement, to pat themselves on the back and to dig some money out of the average guy. Name one of these people that dont have millions they could easily donate. But no lets hit people who have to actually WORK for a living. Fact is a garbage man is more viable to the wealfare of mankind than any of these people.
January 20th, 2010 at 12:14 pm
Kala:
I could not agree with you more. Why don’t these “celebrities” call each other and ask for a “fair share” donation of a measly 10% of their 2009 earnings; only those who agree should be allowed to man the phone bank. (I’ll bet you will not see a single one of them there). Barf.

Did I miss the telethon for the injured soldiers coming home from overseas or the one for the homeless here in the United States or the one for the poor here in our own backyard? Why is it so much more popular to do for others before we do for our own?
January 20th, 2010 at 12:18 pm
Why don’t you ego-maniac’s just donate some of your millions and forget about the “look at me” part? What a bunch of phonies!
January 20th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
Oh, why bother – people did not need a so-called STAR – to get them to give money to Haiti – they did it without the prodding of any spoiled millionaire telling them to do so – Guess, what George – we did it on our own. I noticed that a blogger said something about taking care of the animals – has anyone seen any animals because I haven’t. Don’t they have dogs? Just a question – I know its silly but I have been wondering about it.
January 20th, 2010 at 12:35 pm
With all the natural disasters in the US in 2009 – tornados, ice freezes, floods (not Katrina) I didnt see these actors jumping in to help – nor the gov’t. They knock America, they are classless and they lied about Bush. I wouldnt give these actors a dime nor watch. I will however give through the aid agencies.
January 20th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
These sick bastarrds need to be put to sleep..Just send your own money in get a big tax deduction get your ego stroked and shut the f-up
January 20th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
This is more about them and getting their faces on the camera and its all free. Listen Clooney and crew – just give money – you have plenty of it – could rebuild Haiti on your own.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
Considering the fact that the USA has been GIVING tons of money to Haiti for years…and considering the fact that we haven’t even been able to go into Haiti to monitor where that money has gone because of the corruption…I’m not giving a red cent. (Other than what is being donated by Obama…my money IS in that huge pot). And George Clooney can unline his own pockets. This little “telethon” will not be watched by me. When the big one hits california, who will be there to help us???
God helps those who help themselves.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:21 pm
These pigs only want to promote the idea that they are wonderful caring people. If they are truly so wonderful and caring why don’t they share with us what they have personally contributed to causes over the last ten years. With most of them already MILLIONAIRES why don’t they just pool some of their wealth and leave the rest of us alone!
These are for the most part self righteous bigots that only want glam time for their own egos!
January 20th, 2010 at 1:24 pm
Clooney is a great guy. This is not as much about ordinary people putting up what dollars they can afford, even if that will probably help, but about rich people being encouraged (or shamed!) into contributing. Good! Some already do give tons of money to charities, others may start now.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
A telethon and the reward of sonic torture for your donation. It`s always the same clowns isn`t it? It doesn`t matter if it`s a telethon or some special, or some Rock n Roll hall of lame show, or some Monster truck crash up, it`s always these idiots playing; Bruce Spingsteen, Sting (that`s how my ears feel after listening to him), Mary J. Bilge, Dave Matthews torture, Sheryl Ho. Boner and the Edge, and somehow Matt Damon and Ben Affleck always seem to magically appear. Phil Collins and Eric Clapton too for the lounge music loving crowd. Oh man, just thinking about it gives me a headache.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Americans don’t need liberal telethon mess to donate money. I’ll bet a least half the money donated goes to the big party for thier big egos.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Kala, you sound like a bitter, nasty, negative piece of s#it.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:47 pm
“George Clooney works fast. In eight days he’s put together an all-star telethon set for this Friday on all the networks.”
Oh dont treat us like we are children. Clooney called some other stars. If they were A-listers. His manager probably called everyone else.
The ‘all-star’ telethon is being put together by managers, producers, tv people- a hundred people other than George Clooney. They are the ones who have worked fast. They have got the stages, the sat links, the logistics, the phone banks, the text interfaces and the credit card backend together.
Clooney might have 20 hours into this- none of it actual work.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:48 pm
All of Roger’s darlings will be there…well, I guess Ben will have to phone it from Park City.
I would encourage donations to a reputable relief oganization serving Haiti, but portions of this telethon’s proceeds will be distributed to Wyclef’s Yele Haiti. There may be better options out there.
January 20th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
I don’t see any reason for these valaint vanguards of the poor, the animal and the earth to give one penny to the regretfull people of Haiti.
Isn’t it enough that Sting bilked, errr gave all the money to the rainforest indigineous and clooney single handedly ended the human trafficking business in Darfur?
I also think I remember Springsteen capturing bin laden and Crow revolutionizing the bathroom tissue industry.
Brilliant, all of them, all we need is Bob Geldof and Tony Blair’s old lady and the SuperFriends should be complete.
January 20th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
They can put all these songs on one album and call it “Clooney Tunes”
January 20th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Give through your church or another reputable organization; then you don’t have to watch these clowns.
January 20th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
What about Boner? Isn’t this something Boner would be involved in? You know, getting his face all over the place so he can use profanities and show off his latest “hip” shades. At least “the boss” will be involved. Now that’s some brain trust, that “boss”. Yep. Never tire of these do-gooders telling me where to spend my money, how to vote, etc.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:38 pm
January 20th, 2010 at 6:38 pm
WHERE IS HAITI MENTIONED HERE??? Did the writer of this piece forget what this is all about? I see the names of the “beautiful” people of Hollywood, but no mention of HAITI!! Funny, isn’t it?? Hollywood humble to the core.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
It would probably be better to donate through the Salvation Army.
Fewer entities between donor and recipient. More honesty and dependibility, no doubt.
January 21st, 2010 at 9:20 am
He needs Adam Lambert “Time for Miracles”
January 22nd, 2010 at 7:35 am
The only reason to watch is to take a list of names of whose movies and music not to purchase in the future. BOYCOTT time. Pompous, arrogant, and self-important creeps. If you really want to be so special – be anonymous in your giving.
January 22nd, 2010 at 6:51 pm
WOW! You people are the most hateful, partisan, jaded, cynical group I’ve had the misfortune to stumble upon. Talk about self centered….egads!
