How many CDs can you sell after two days on the “Oprah” show? The answer: 165,000 copies.
That’s what Whitney Houston sold of her “I Look to You” CD after spending last Monday and Tuesday spilling her guys and singing like crazy on Oprah’s show.
That puts “I Look to You” at just about 500,000 copies sold since its release three weeks ago. This means Whitney should be on her way to 1 million sold in the U.S., and a platinum record.

Up next on Oprah Barbra Streisand is scheduled to sing two songs later this week on 9/24. Streisand’s new CD “Love is the Answer” drops Sept 29th. The set is produced by the masterful Diana Krall and the stunning results show it. It is an intimate Jazz flavored album.
Who will be on top in sales? Barbra, Madonna or Mariah? What a race.

OH PULEEEZ.. JAY Z HAS SOLD OVER 750K IN 2 WEEKS. WHY? CUZ HE PROMOTES HIS ASS OFF!! WHITNEY HAS DONE LITTLE TO NOTHING TO PROMOTE HER ALBUM OTHER THAN A FAILED PERFORMANCE AT GMA AND THE OPRAH INTERVIEW WHICH WAS ACTUALLY TAPED 3 WEEKS PRIOR. SO IN REALITY SHE HAS DONE NOTHING. HER RECORD SALES COULD HELLUVA LOT BETTER IF SHE WERE TO PROMOTE LIKE SHE DID DURING MLIYL ERA WHERE SHE WAS EVERYWHERE! JAY Z IS PROOF THAT PROMOS WORK. SRUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING OFF WITH WHITEY, THAT SHE IS NOT FULLY CLEAN AND I THINK THAT’S THE REAL REASON WHY SHE’S NOT PROMOTING LIKE SHE SHOULD. CLIVE SAYS SHE LIKE A “BARBARA STREISAND” AND DOESNT HAVE TO PROMOTE EVERYWHERE. I THINK THAT’S BS. THERE ARE MANY 50+ ACTS (IE. MADONNA AND CO.) THAT MADE THEIR PRESENCE GLOBAL. CLIVE SAYS SHE’S NOT TOURING AND THEN WHITNEY HERSELF SAYS ON 3 MORNING RADIO PROGRAMS THAT SHE IS.. MAKES CLIVE SOUND THE HYPOCRITE AND SOMEONE THAT IS COVERING FOR WHITNEY’S PERSONAL ISSUES. I COULD GO ON BUT YOU GET THE DRIFT. NOTHING IS ALL THAT IT APPEARS…
AS FOR RECORD SALES, 165k IS NO BIGGIE. REMEMBER YOU HAVE TO DISCOUNT THE ACTUAL CD’S THAT WOULD’VE BEEN BOUGHT IF THEIR WAS NO OPRAH EFFECT. 88K WAS THE PREVIOUS WEEK’S SALES AND ASSUME THE OPAH WEEK WOULD’VE BEEN ABOUT 60K AFTER DROP-OFF. SO WE CAN ASSUME THE TRUE OPRAH EFFECT WAS ABOUT 100K, NOTHING REALLY TO WRITE HOME ABOUT WHEN JAY Z 2ND WEEK SELLS OVER 300K!!
SUCH SIMPLE ANALYSIS, FRIEDMAN!! GET WITH THE PROGRAM. LOL.

FYI. Soundscan says her last week’s sales was 155K not 165K. HITS DD over estimated.

Truth , you are a hater. The Oprah interview did not take place three weeks prior to the GMA performance. It was a day before GMA. She gave a good vocal performance of two songs on Oprah ( ” I Love The Lord” was not shown). After the enomrous success of her album ( overseas as well ) & her huge demand, Clive & Whitney decided to tour. Just give her the comeback credit that she deserves.

P.S. Whitney is one of the rare , true bonafide ” A-list ” celebrity. Clive and his great marketing team used her big name & celebrity status incredibly well.

Not only that but the sales are for the ENTIRE WEEK, not just the two days she was on Oprah. Roger, 3 weeks ago you said the CD would sell a million in a month. Back then, I said to print out my comment that it wouldn’t. Well, we’re a week away from one month and I’m right- she sold that many after Oprah. She’ll go down in sales again without that promotional bump & STILL won’t hit a million. Even if she sold as much next week, it still wouldn’t hit a million.
You have no clue as to how record sales go week to week.

THE AVERAGE DROP AFTER 1ST WEEK’S SALES IS APPROX 65-70% IN 2DAY’S SUCKY MUSIC ENVIRONMENT. EVEN STRONG SELLING ALBUMS DROP 50% AFTER THE 1ST WEEK. ASSUME WHITNEY KEEPS A 50% DROP-OFF, YOU CAN ASSUME ONLY 75-80K SALES MAX. WHICH WOULD ONLY BRING HER TO 630-635K STILL FAR FROM PLATINUM. I WILL SAY SHE GOES PLATINUM BY DECEMBER AND EARLIER IF SHE ACTUALLY GETS OFF HER ASS AND PROMOTES. DOESNT SEEM LIKE A COMEBACK TO ME SINCE SHE’S DOING 25% WHAT A FULL-TIME A LISTER ARTIST IN PROMOS.

SALLY P, YOU’RE AN IDIOT. PART I OPRAH WAS TAPED AUG 31ST, GMA SEPT 1ST BUT SHOWN SEPT 2ND, AND PART II OPRAH TAPED SEPT 3RD. BEING TODAY IS SEPT 23 (NOW SEPT 24TH AS I WRITE THIS)THAT MAKES APPROX 3 WEEKS BACK. SINCE YOU CANT CALCULATE SIMPLE MATH, THE REST OF YOUR ARGUMENT IS PRONE TO LACK CREDIBILITY. NEXT!
